影片總結

Iga’s samurai spies became Tokugawa castle detectives, while today’s ninja myths emerged largely from 20th-century films and fiction.

The video separates ninja legend from the history of Japan’s shinobi. During the 16th-century civil wars, Iga and Kōka samurai used espionage, disguise and ambush; Oda Nobunaga’s 1581 invasion crushed Iga, but its warriors later helped Tokugawa Ieyasu escape danger and eventually become shogun. Under Tokugawa rule, their descendants served as castle guards and intelligence gatherers, uncovering an alleged 1651 plot by Marubashi Chūya to burn Edo and seize the young shogun’s government. Peace and isolation made the work less dramatic, while Iga stories and kabuki developed supernatural, black-clad stealth warriors. In 1854, spy Sawamura Yasusuke observed Commodore Perry’s American fleet, but Japan’s opening and the Meiji Restoration made the old castle detectives obsolete. The modern ninja image came later: Fujita Seiko’s 1936 claims and postwar entertainment helped popularize signature weapons and ninjutsu, many of which were recent inventions.
