A two-week US-Iran ceasefire reopened Hormuz, easing oil prices while leaving food, currency and peace risks unresolved.
Pakistan announced a two-week ceasefire between the US, Israel and Iran, with commercial passage through the Strait of Hormuz coordinated by Iran and negotiations set to begin in Islamabad on April 10. The sides disagree over whether Israel’s operations in Lebanon are covered. Iran’s ten-point demands include sanctions relief, uranium enrichment, control of Hormuz and US troop withdrawal; reported US proposals instead call for limits on Iran’s nuclear and missile programs and regional proxy support. Markets initially welcomed the announcement: Brent, WTI, European gas and fuel prices fell, while the Indian rupee recovered slightly, but prices remain above prewar levels. Shipping risks, damaged Gulf production, slow resupply and stockpiling could keep costs elevated for weeks or months. A lasting recovery depends on peace, yet disputes over nuclear policy, US forces and Israel’s actions make the fragile ceasefire uncertain.
