影片總結

MIT professor Robert Townsend outlines 11 lectures linking blockchain, smart contracts, and encryption with financial economics.

MIT professor Robert M. Townsend introduces course 14.129, “Blockchain and the Design of Financial Systems,” an 11-lecture synthesis of computer science and economics. The course examines distributed ledgers, smart contracts, and encryption without treating blockchain as a cure-all, applying tools such as contract theory and mechanism design to payments, market coordination, liquidity, and regulation. Early lectures compare blockchains with financial accounts and explain how fragmented markets can require community-wide ledgers to reach efficient outcomes. Later topics include private money and financial crashes, tokenized assets and settlement failures measured in trillions of dollars, and algorithms for clearing multilateral debts. The final lectures cover risk-sharing versus contagion, incentive problems such as the Byzantine Generals Problem, zero-knowledge proofs, encrypted auctions, and decentralized exchanges. Townsend says the class has no exams or midterm; students can pursue research projects based on their interests.
