Linus and Alex revive their abandoned 2004 PC build with EK water blocks, a GeForce 6800 Ultra, and gloriously over-the-top styling.
Seven years after a failed attempt to makeover Linus’s dream 2004 PC, Linus reunites with Alex from Zip Tie Tuning and Zip Tie Tech to finish the build. They source replacement parts and fit an Intel 2.4 GHz Northwood CPU, an Intel 875 motherboard, 2 GB of DDR1 RAM, and a GeForce 6800 Ultra, with custom EK water blocks for the CPU, GPU, RAM, and southbridge. An experimental AGP riser fails to produce video, but the system eventually posts after they abandon the vertical mount and sort out the power connections. The duo build a custom loop, paint the I/O shield, and add deliberately tacky car-inspired badges, vents, and a cardboard spoiler. Running Windows XP, the finished PC looks spectacular, though the GPU reaches 71°C and the display is limited to 30 Hz. They celebrate the long-delayed project and tease a possible V2 with underglow.
