影片總結

Waymo co-CEO Dmitri Dolgov says its demo took 18 months, its product 15 years, and its driver records 17 times fewer serious-injury crashes.

At Startup School 2026, Waymo co-CEO Dmitri Dolgov explains why physical AI must “move fast and ship safely”: unlike a chatbot, a mistake on the road can cost lives, and cars must make decisions in milliseconds with limited real-world data. Waymo’s first autonomous demo took 18 months, but turning it into a reliable product took about 15 years; each additional “nine” of reliability demands roughly ten times more effort. Dolgov argues for choosing technology that can reach the product’s required performance, combining cameras, lidar and radar, and repeatedly bringing new AI advances into production without adding complexity. Waymo’s foundation model and closed-loop simulation help train and test rare scenarios, while an agent-simulator-critic ecosystem improves through deployment data. He says rigorous evaluation and public safety evidence earn trust: across more than 220 million autonomous miles, Waymo reports about 17 times fewer crashes causing serious injury than human drivers in its operating areas.
