Gamers Nexus revives disc production with a $15,000 duplicator, burning 361 CDs and rejecting seven.
After Sony’s retreat from physical media—and the loss of purchased digital content—the Gamers Nexus team sets out to learn disc production and preserve access to its work. They unpack a four-drive, $15,000 duplicator and thousands of dollars’ worth of blank Blu-rays, DVDs, and CDs, while prototyping 3D-printed cases. The first project is an audio CD of Aaron Pauly’s music: the team learns to add CD-Text metadata, burns a master, and prints a custom smiley label. The duplicator completes 361 discs overnight, with seven rejected. The team also explains its no-DRM approach and plans for physical editions of documentaries, including the AI GPU Black Market film. The experiment is only a start: Blu-ray encoding, PS5 playback problems linked to Nvidia hardware encoding, color space, and chaptering remain to be solved.
